DESCRIPTION:When partnering with patients the goal is to empower patients to control their blood pressure. This is accomplished through a combination of evidence-based communication strategies\, helping patients accurately self-measure\, and by directing patients and families to resources that support medication adherence and healthy lifestyles.\n\nLearning objectives\n\n• Review the evidence-based non-pharmacological lifestyle interventions to prevent and treat hypertension\n• Describe the approximate impact of specific non-pharmacological lifestyle interventions on systolic blood pressure\n• Outline the role of collaborative communication including motivational interviewing and evidence-based strategies in promoting patient adherence to lifestyle interventions\n• Identify resources that can support clinic staff and patients to learn more about lifestyle interventions\n\nHear from national experts:\n• June Ma\, MD\, PhD\, FAHA\, FABMR\, FSBM\, Beth and George Vitoux Professor and Founding Director of the Vitoux Program on Aging and Prevention\, University of Illinois at Chicago\n\n• Kimberly A.
